7 week stretch

I hadn’t experienced any nausea with this pregnancy until earlier this week, when I was subjected to the over-the-top canoodling of a couple sitting across from me in the waiting room at the clinic.

I was there on Monday for my first ultrasound; a viability ultrasound.

Post-ultrasound, while waiting for the sonographer to deliver her report, the couple got comfy across from me and the man put his head on the woman’s shoulder, then proceeded to make kissing noises.

Good Lord. Gag me.

But, other than that, still no nausea! YES!

Today I’m 7 weeks, and the baby is the size of a chickpea, a cheerio, a blueberry. Even though it’s only half an inch long, on Monday, the sonographer turned her screen to show me a small flashing – the heartbeat.

Photographic proof of… something.

At its still super small size, the baby is 10,000 times bigger than it was at conception a month ago! Most of that growth is in the head, with new brain cells generating at a rate of 100 per minute.

Clearly my baby is going to be a genius.

The ultrasound confirmed the timing of the pregnancy (6 weeks, 5 days), and showed the heartbeat at a rate of 95 – a little lower than it should be, but nothing to be concerned about at this stage.

I got back for another ultrasound in a week – next Thursday. They’re very thorough, I’m learning, which I’m totally fine with, because at times I wonder if there’s actually something happening!

Minus the sore boobs and some fatigue (but nothing close to what I’ve been reading about), I feel fine. Either I’m about to get hit – hard – or I’m going to be one of those women everyone hates who has a great, easy pregnancy!

I’ll be sure to keep my mouth shut on Saturday morning, when I attend a prenatal yoga class with my friend J. She’s much farther ahead than me, due in early August.

I know what you might be thinking: me, doing yoga? That’s a stretch – bad yoga pun intended. But I thought the class would be fun to try, and invited J to join me.

If I’m honest, I’m even more excited about going out for brunch afterwards.

Namaste for the food.

  1. I just love that cartoon and your bluntness about yoga is hilarious! (Wait ‘til you’re my age…..you’ll need it just to be able to move in the morning).
