Lucky number 13

First off, I want to welcome my new followers!

Now that I’m past that infamous three month mark I’ve shared my baby news more widely.

So, if you’re just tuning in, welcome! I’d suggest you go back to the beginning to read all my previous posts, but I’m biased.

So, I’m 13 weeks today.

But let’s #tbt to last week; here’s baby’s most recent glamour shot:

The 12-week ultrasound was loooong. Like, an hour long. Baby has to be in a very specific position for them to get just as specific measurements. This is all part of the screening tests.

Turns out my kid is already stubborn. No bigger than the size of a lemon and already refusing to sit still for a photo.

The ultrasound techs had to poke and prod all over my abdomen to coax the little nugget to move where they needed.

And did I mention I had a full bladder?

They eventually got what they needed, and I got to see baby’s right and left brain, stomach, spine, arms and legs.

It’s mind blowing to me that all of this exists before it’s even 3 inches big.

Today, it weighs just under an ounce, and its very unique (and hopefully never inked) fingerprints are in place.

If it’s a baby girl growing in there (🤞), she already has approximately 2 million eggs in her ovaries, but will have only a million by the time she’s born. She’ll have even fewer eggs as she gets older, and by age 17 the number will have dropped to 200,000.

Vocal cords are developing, intestines are moving into their proper place, and the little lemon is creating (and peeing out!) its own urine into the amniotic fluid.

As for me, I’m still sitting on the lucky side of the pregnancy symptoms fence. My only real complaint is the bitchin’ headaches I’m currently enduring.

Like right now. And two days ago when I woke up feeling like there was a bowling ball in my head.

God, I miss Advil. Tylenol blows.

On that note, I’m going to grab an eye mask from my freezer and go to sleep.

Until I wake up to pee.

  3. Thought I detected a ‘CH’ on your baby’s side, early notification that a new Montreal Canadiens fan is brewing….probably the result of being in french immersion all those yrs….your child is thus beginning life with a tremendous head start on all those other kids whose parents will delay their development conditioning them to cheer for the Leafs….
